Short answer: for the couch everyone fights over, we’d start with three throws: the Bedsure GentleSoft sherpa in twin size for two people sharing, the Bedsure GentleSoft heated throw for whoever is always cold, and the PHF cotton waffle throw for whoever runs warm.

It’s 8:40 on a Sunday night in November, the show is about to start, and there’s one good blanket in the house. Someone got to the couch first. They have the corner seat, the blanket, and the look of a person who intends to keep both, while everyone else gets a throw pillow and a grudge.

A house with one good blanket reopens the same negotiation every night. The couch is the contested ground, the corner seat is the prize, and the talks go nowhere because there’s only one blanket to divide. What settles it is a treaty with more to hand out: enough blankets, in enough kinds, that everyone gets the one that suits them.

So we drafted the terms. Below are seven throws, each matched to a different party at the talks: the one who’s always cold, the one who runs hot, the one who just wants something pretty on the arm. All seven were live Amazon listings when we checked on October 12, 2026. Amazon shows its own current prices, so you’ll find those there rather than here.

A workable blanket treaty: one throw per person, plus one big enough for two.

Opening terms: enough blankets to go around

Most blanket disputes come down to supply. One good throw and three people on the couch is a negotiation with no possible deal.

The Bedsure GentleSoft fleece throw is the simplest peace on this list. It’s a microfiber flannel fleece with a striped texture, 50 by 60 inches, in off white, and the listing calls it lightweight. It’s machine washable, which matters for a blanket that will meet popcorn butter. You could buy two, fold one into a basket by the couch, and settle most disputes before they start.

Sometimes two people want the same blanket because they want to be under it together. For that, the answer is one blanket big enough for both. The Bedsure GentleSoft sherpa comes in a twin size, 60 by 80 inches, which is 20 inches longer and 10 inches wider than a standard throw.

Picture two people at opposite ends of the sofa with their feet meeting in the middle, both covered. One side is a 220 GSM velvety flannel and the other is a 260 GSM sherpa, and the listing says it won a Good Housekeeping Best Bedding Award. It’s light grey, reversible, and plain enough to sit on any couch. A blanket this size turns the couch into shared territory, which is the whole point of a treaty.

The one everyone reaches for

Every couch has one blanket nobody needs to be talked into. Picture a cream faux fur throw tossed over the sofa arm, and how fast it ends up on someone’s lap once the lights go down.

The Bedsure Fluffy Bubble faux fur throw is the one we’d expect to be claimed first. The front is a 650 GSM faux rabbit fur with a bubbled texture and a soft sheen, and the back is a 220 GSM “milk velvet,” so neither side feels like the wrong side. Bedsure calls it nicely weighted. It’s 50 by 60 inches in cream, Oeko-Tex certified according to the listing, and machine washable (no bleach).

If we were buying one blanket for a house that fights over blankets, it would be this one, and we’d accept that it would belong to whoever sat down first from then on.

For the one who runs hot

Every round of talks has one party who keeps kicking the blanket off. They want something over their legs, and nothing that feels like a sleeping bag.

The PHF cotton waffle throw is their side of the deal. It’s 100% cotton in a waffle weave, 50 by 60 inches, in a light taupe, and it arrives pre-washed, so it should feel broken in from the first night. Cotton breathes, which means you’d get the weight of a blanket without the heat building up underneath. Wash it cold on gentle and tumble dry low. It’s the compromise everyone can sign: a layer for the warm person that still looks good folded on the ottoman.

For the one who’s always cold

Then there’s the person who reaches for a blanket in July, and what they’re holding out for is heat.

The Bedsure GentleSoft heated throw is their concession. It has six heat levels and six timer settings from 1 to 10 hours, and by default it shuts itself off after 8 hours, so a nap that runs long doesn’t leave it on all night. Its preheat mode runs two hours on the top setting, then drops to level 4 for six more. The top is a 240 GSM ribbed flannel and the back is a 200 GSM sherpa, both in grey, 50 by 60 inches. Unplug the controller and the blanket goes in the washer.

It’s ETL and FCC certified and draws 100 watts, and Bedsure says it ranked among the top three in Good Housekeeping’s 2025 heated blanket lab tests. Picture it switched on ten minutes before the movie, so the corner seat is already warm when the coldest person sits down. Whoever was hoarding the fleece hands it over without a word.

The ones that live on the arm

Some blankets do their diplomacy just by being there, folded over the sofa arm, making the room look like a place people want to stay.

The L’AGRATY chunky knit is the showpiece. It’s an ivory polyester chenille in a cable knit, 50 by 60 inches, and the listing says it’s handmade and has been pulled and tested to resist shedding and pilling, a fair worry with chunky knits. The knit is full of small holes that let air through, so it’s more of a lap blanket than one to sleep under. Draped over the arm, it does more for the look of the couch than anything else here.

The DII braided stripe throw is the other one we’d leave out for show. It’s 100% woven cotton, 50 by 60 inches, stone stripes on cream with a 2.5-inch fringe, and at 1.9 pounds it’s a medium weight. Wash it cold on gentle, separately from other colors, then tumble dry low. Nobody fights over the throw that’s mostly there to look nice, which makes it the rare blanket that stays where you put it.

If it’s a gift

A throw is about the easiest peace offering there is, because almost everyone has a couch and almost nobody minds one more blanket. For the friend who’s always cold, give the heated throw. For a couple, the sherpa twin, so they can stop negotiating. For the person who already has everything, the faux fur is the one that feels like a treat. The lightweight fleece is the one to tuck in alongside a bigger gift.

Signing the treaty

If we were outfitting one living room for a household of blanket fighters, we’d start with three: the sherpa twin for sharing, the heated throw for the cold one, and the waffle cotton for the warm one. Add the faux fur when you’re ready to start a whole new dispute. And if the house has a cat that likes to pull at loops, we’d skip the chunky knit, since an open knit is easy for claws to catch.

Some Sunday night in January, the show starts and everyone settles in at once, each under their own blanket. The only thing left to argue about is what to watch.
